With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, what better time to talk about wines and their best dessert side-kicks. Whether you’re spending the day with someone special or just want to treat yourself, check out these pairing options for an indulgent treat.

Strawberry Shortcake and Vouvray Brut

This wine is crisp with notes of green apple, pear, and honeysuckle. The acidic bite slices through the shortcake and whipped cream and the tree fruit flavors complement the fresh strawberry flavor.

White Chocolate and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc

This selection is shown to bring out more of the telltale passion fruit aromas in wine than any other Sauvignon Blanc. The rich, fruity aromas add a layer of fruit to the understated balance of white chocolate without overpowering it. Take a sip after having a bite of white chocolate and it’ll seem like you’re tasting a fruit cream mousse.

Chocolate Mousse and Brachetto d’Acqui

This wine has a lighter body and red berry notes. It is a semi-sparkling Italian red and it offers sweetness without going overboard. This bottle would be perfect on its own if you didn’t have dessert! The bubbles cut through the creaminess of the mousse and add a sharp texture with notes of candied fruit and red flowers.

Carrot Cake and Fino Sherry

This wine lacks the heavy sweetness of other selections while taking on lighter notes of almonds and a touch of citrus. With the spiciness of carrot cake, this pairing is beautiful with the nuttiness of a Sherry. The Fino is understated and not too sweet on top of the vanilla cream cheese frosting.

Peach Cobbler and Dry Riesling

Riesling can range from sweet to bone dry, and packs some wonderful notes of green apple and citrus. Bright and acidic fruit flavors cut through the sweetness of peach cobbler, meanwhile enhancing the fruitiness of the dessert. Earthy tones in that of German Riesling accentuate the crust of a flaky cobbler and enhance its subtle sweetness.
